Takoma Park Kitchen Remodel: Opening the Kitchen With a Support Beam

This Takoma Park kitchen was completely renovated to create a larger, more open space for cooking, gathering and everyday use.

Opening the Kitchen Layout

The existing load-bearing wall limited the kitchen’s size and separated it from the adjoining area. A support beam was installed before the bearing wall was removed, allowing the kitchen footprint to open up while maintaining the required structural support.

Removing the wall created a more spacious layout with better movement through the room and more flexibility for the new cabinetry and appliances.

Completing the Renovation

New hardwood flooring was installed to give the expanded space a continuous finished surface. The renovation also included new kitchen cabinets and appliances, bringing the larger layout together as a complete kitchen rather than simply opening the wall. The existing fireplace was refreshed with new mantel tile to complement the renovated space.

What This Project Accomplished

The completed renovation transformed a divided kitchen into a larger, connected space. The support beam made the open layout possible, while the hardwood flooring, cabinetry, appliances and newly tiled fireplace mantel gave the room a cohesive finished appearance.
