Bathroom Vanity Ideas

The vanity is one of the most-used parts of a bathroom. Size, storage, countertop space, sinks, lighting and plumbing all affect whether it works well.

Choose the size for the room

A larger vanity is not always better. Door clearances, walking space, nearby fixtures and the overall room layout should guide the width and depth.

Plan useful storage

Drawers can make smaller items easier to reach, while cabinet space may be useful for larger items. Plumbing locations can reduce usable storage if they are not considered during planning.

Single or double sinks

Two sinks can be convenient in a shared bathroom, but they also consume countertop and cabinet space. The best choice depends on room size and how the homeowners use the bathroom.

Coordinate the mirror and lighting

Vanity width, mirror size, medicine cabinets and fixture locations should be planned together so the finished wall looks intentional and provides useful light.

Check the installation details

Confirm the finished vanity height, countertop thickness, sink type and faucet requirements as one assembly. Wall-mounted faucets, vessel sinks and unusually thick countertops can change rough-in dimensions. Plumbing inside the cabinet should be positioned to preserve useful drawer and storage space whenever the layout allows.

Also plan the backsplash, mirror, lighting, receptacles and medicine cabinets before installation. Their dimensions compete for space on the same wall. Reviewing an elevation drawing or even a taped wall mockup can reveal alignment and clearance problems before materials are ordered.
