Bathroom Remodeling Silver Spring, MD: A Case Study

During demolition of this Silver Spring bathroom, Surdus Remodeling found mold beneath the existing shower base and damaged material that needed to be addressed before the new finishes could be installed.

Repairing the bathroom before rebuilding

The damaged subfloor was replaced and the wet area was rebuilt with water-resistant cement board and appropriate preparation for the new shower. The remodeled bathroom included a new shower basin, corner bench and shelf, tile, sliding shower door and vanity work.

Plumbing and electrical work associated with the remodel were completed, followed by the finishing and painting work.

What this project demonstrates

Visible finishes cannot correct moisture damage concealed below a shower. Once demolition exposed mold and damaged material, the affected construction had to be addressed before the bathroom could be rebuilt. Installing new tile over unresolved deterioration would only hide the problem.
